Dr. Sonja Brownlee Introduction

Dr. Sonja Brownlee has been a pediatrician since 1986. She grew up in Sacramento California, and attended college in the NapaValley. She graduated from Loma Linda School of Medicine in California in 1983 and completed her pediatric residency at Loma Linda University in 1986. She received her Board Certification from the American Board of Pediatrics in 1987. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Dr. Brownlee had a private general Pediatric practice in Moreno Valley, from 1987 through 1993.  In the spring of 1993, she took some time off to stay home with her three children: 2 sons and a daughter.  Currently, her eldest son is an Electrical Engineer working in California.  Her second son is a 3rd year Mechanical Engineering major and her daughter is a 1st year International Relations major at Gonzaga University in Spokane WA.  Her husband is Rob Brownlee, MD. He is triple boarded in General Surgery, Vascular Surgery and Critical Care.  He is also in private practice here in Elko.

The Brownlee's moved to Elko in August, 1997, for the small town environment and clear blue skies. Sonja Brownlee MD began her Pediatric practice here in Elko in 1998 as part of Elko General Hospital's Medical Arts Building on 5th Street.  She moved into her Railroad Street office in October 2000, and then moved to her current location, 1825 Pinion Road, Suite E, in January, 2005.

Dr. Brownlee's Philosophy

People are more than just physical diagnoses: our physical well-being is related to our emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being. Treating the whole person, and not just the disease, is what the "art" of medicine is about.

An important aspect of pediatric care is education and prevention. Pediatricians endeavor to prevent disease by advocating good nutrition, active lifestyles, safety awareness, immunizations, understanding developmental changes, and encouraging loving and consistent home environments.

Dr. Brownlee believes that the best health care for your child can be provided when pediatricians and families work together as partners. Parents have intimate knowledge of their own child's unique personality and behavior. Pediatricians have specialized training in the development and diseases of children. Medical training is scientific and based on statistics and experience with large numbers of patients.

The use of medical knowledge in caring for individual patients and families is an art requiring empathy, an ability to listen, and flexibility in working out practical solutions. A partnership of physician, patient, and parents requires mutual respect and open communication. Dr. Brownlee encourages your questions.
